Work Background

I first started programming when I was in high school back in 1985. I formed a computer club, and when I was seventeen I started working in Boston selling Macintosh computers for a local retailer.

By the time I was twenty-three, 1992, I left sales and started designing client-server software for several companies in Greater Boston as an independent contractor. I've been doing contract work ever since.

By the year 2000, I had already made many successful applications for around twenty Fortune 500 companies, and countless small, and not-so-small, ventures.

Now I specialize in user interface design and development. My favorite thing to do professionally is to conduct user research, and design the actual functionality of the application. I've made many companies millions of dollars through the resale and application of my work, including: Cornerstone Software, EMC, Virgin Group, Novell, and Liberty Mutual Insurance.

I love what I do, and have a proven track record of finding a way to design software that makes a profit.

I'm an active member of the Usability Professional Association. I've studied user interface design at the Museum School, and also under the training of Yahoo's head of usability. I've also studied strategic management, and I've always had a personal interest in economics and cogitative psychology.

Personal Background

Since I was a kid I've loved solving problems. Growing up I would pore over a set of 1945 encyclopedias and try to figure out what they were talking about. There's still some part of me that thinks electrons loop around an atom like a satellite.

As I grew up, my brother and I were known as the kids that took everything in the house apart. Toasters, video games (Pong), each other's electronic toys - if we could get away with it. I'm sure there were A LOT of things we were allowed to buy from Radio Shack that we shouldn't have.

Once I was old enough to work, I worked. I still keep in touch with my managers from when I was 25, 20, and even 15. I like working with people and talking about all the possibilities of technology.

Nowadays I spend a lot of time making software, going to movies, archery and boxing practice, and also spending a great deal of time with friends. I grew up on Cape Cod and most of my high-school friends are still close by.
